Is your Maytag Washing Machine stuck on one cycle and will not proceed to the next one? Is your machine showing an error, but you don’t understand why? Do you want to save yourself the money and hassle of calling a repairman and reset the machine yourself? Well then, we have a few ways that will help you reset your washer and get it back to working perfectly in no time.

About Digital Washers

Nowadays washing machines have greatly increased their efficiency by a lot as compared to the older models. And one of the major advancements made in these appliances is that they have become more digital and less manual. And although this advancement is greatly beneficial, it has also opened a lot more opportunities for the machine to malfunction. This is because of a much complex operating system and intricate programming. And so once in a while, your washing machines will give you an error due to a small problem triggering the entire system. Which then requires a reset of the machine and all the commands that have been input into it.

Maytag is one of the best companies in the USA when it comes to durable and reliable yet affordable appliances. But sometimes one of its machines might run into a small hitch that can leave you extremely frustrated even though it is not serious enough for a professional to examine it.

And before taking the machine to a handyman, it is always best to try to reset all the codes of the machine to make sure it isn’t just an error that isn’t making the machine work. And so that if there isn’t any problem with the machinery then you saved a difficult trip lugging your washer around.

An error code can give rise to multiple problems like the machine getting stuck on one cycle and not being able to move to the next while washing. Or the machine not spinning the clothes while washing or drying. Or even the whole thing not working at all.

The reason these error codes occur is because of various problems that the machine is facing like, a power spike or an unbalanced load, etc. And so there are multiple ways for you to reset a Maytag washer to remove these error codes.

How to Reset Maytag Washer

One of the first and simplest ways you can rest your washer is by unplugging it for around 15 seconds. If that doesn’t work then you can further try the other methods.

One of the ways you can reset your Maytag washer is by rotating the main dial in a specific order. To do that you have to first make sure that the main dial is at its standard ‘normal’ position. Then turn the dial counterclockwise making one full rotation and coming back to the ‘normal’ position. After that, turn the dial clockwise for only three settings so that the dial is now at the 3 o’clock position. Turn it clockwise once and then counterclockwise once, bringing the dial back at the 3 o’clock position. If you have done this right, the lights at the bottom of the dial will start blinking. If they don’t then you should repeat the whole process at varying speeds. After this step, you need to turn the dial counterclockwise four times or till only the light indicating ‘rinse’ is lit. After which you can press ‘start’ and the machine will start to calibrate and reset all the codes.

This method works for most of the Maytag models like Centennial, Whirlpool, Bravo, etc. But in the case of a more heavy-duty commercial washer like the Maytag Commercial Coin-operated Front load washer you need to follow completely different steps.

First, you need to unlock the lockbox, this will get your machine into program mode. After this, you have to move to the washing options and press the button that is for Delicates and Knits making sure that you hold it for a few seconds. If you have done this correctly then the LED display on the screen will flash and start to blink this means that all the codes of the machine have been completely reset. And so you can close the lockbox and bring the screen back to its standard display by pressing any button.

Another simple way you can reset a top load Maytag washer is by first unplugging the washer for about a minute. Then after plugging it back you have a 30-second time frame to lift up the top lid of the washer and then bring it back to close. You have to do this six times within a twelve second period. In some models, you would hear the lid of the washer clicking close but if you don’t have one of those then just make sure that you are closing the lid completely.

One thing that you need to make sure of while attempting all of these methods of reset mentioned above, is that your washer is not running and is completely empty.

There is another thing that you can do to reset the machine if, during a wash, it is not moving on from one cycle to the next. You have to first press the power button to stop the machine from washing. Then adjust your setting to the next washing cycle and then press the start button. This will let your machine move on to the next cycle.

Conclusion

Although Maytag does come with a 10-year warranty, it is just limited to parts and does not include maintenance or replacement of the appliances themselves. Therefore it is a good idea to learn the basics about fixing these appliances yourself so that for minor inconveniences you are equipped to handle the situation.

Also, it is always best to first try to reset your washer yourself, when it gets stuck, before calling a handyman or taking it yourself to get fixed. So that you are certain that the problem with your washer is a serious one and need a more professional hand to fix it.
