For a video that has many dialogues in English but the text at the bottom of the movie is also in English, then those are known as ‘Close Captions’. When the text is shown in another language, then it’s called ‘Subtitle’.

How to Turn Off Closed Caption on Netflix
iOS
If you want to disable Closed Caption from Netflix on an iOS device, simply follow these steps:
- Tap on the screen once when a video is running.
- You will see a number of icons at the bottom of the screen. Tap the ‘Audio & Subtitles’ icon.
- When you press on the screen, a pop-up window with subtitles and a few other options should appear.
- Tap the ‘Off’ button.
- Tap the cross on your screen to continue watching.
Android
If you want to disable closed captioning for Netflix on an Android device, just do the following steps:
- Tap on the screen once when a video is running.
- You will see a number of icons at the bottom of the screen. Tap the ‘Audio & Subtitles’ icon.
- When you press on the screen, a pop-up window with subtitles and a few other options should appear.
- Tap on the ‘Off’ option.

Apple TV
You will need to do a number of things to turn off subtitles on Netflix on your Apple TV based on the type of Apple TV you own.
If you want to stop watching closed captioning while you are watching Netflix on your Apple TV, you can do this by following the steps below.
- Use the Apple TV remote control to control whether Apple TV is running version 2 or 3.
- Swipe down to the touchpad on an Apple TV 4 or 4K TV.

Samsung TV

- On your remote, use the directional pad when on the home screen.

Other Smart TVs

- Press the ‘Down’ arrow on your controller, while the video is playing.

- Press the ‘A’ button on the controller to show the ‘Subtitles’ setting.
- Choose the ‘off’ option.
PS4
To disable closed captions while you use Netflix on your PlayStation 4, please do the following:
- Press the ‘Down’ arrow on your controller, while the video is playing.
- The in-player menu will appear. Go to the ‘Dialogue’ menu.
- Choose the ‘Off’ button for subtitles on the screen that shows.
Web Browser
If you want to disable the closed captioning feature on your Netflix app, you can do this by following the steps below.
- Move the cursor across the video window as it plays and press the arrow keys to show more buttons. Click on the down arrow that appears in the toolbar at the bottom of the window.
- There will be something that appears to be a conversation box or a speech box. Click on the icon to show a list of closed caption options.
- There will be a small box. If you are viewing a video with closed captions, in the ‘Subtitles’ column, choose the ‘Off’ option.
- Click any button on this video to make it stop playing, and if you click it, the box will vanish. Then you will notice that the closed captions are gone.
